Our philosophy

Montessori & Reggio-Inspired Childcare in Dundas

In our jungle, learning is not simply delivered. It is discovered. Every interaction, from a shared story to a moment of quiet reassurance, helps children feel secure enough to explore.

The Little Jungle difference: holistic growth

Our unique approach draws inspiration from two internationally renowned educational models: the Reggio Emilia Approach and the Montessori Method. By integrating these philosophies, we create a holistic environment that supports intellectual, emotional, social, and physical growth.

Inspired by Reggio Emilia: the child as a protagonist

Guided by Montessori: cultivating confidence and independence

Where Learning is Guided by Love, Growth is Nurtured by Care, and Confidence is Built on Safety.

We provide high-quality childcare built on safety, nurturing confidence and creativity in the Dundas community.

The child is capable

We start from the belief that every child is a capable, competent learner, not an empty vessel waiting to be filled. Our role is to notice what a child is already reaching for, and to build the conditions in which that curiosity can go somewhere.

Relationships come first

A child who does not feel safe cannot learn. Before anything else, we invest in the relationship: consistent educators, familiar faces, and the time to know each child properly. We have never used agency staff since opening, and that is deliberate.

Montessori-inspired, Reggio-guided

We blend Montessori's respect for independence and prepared environments with Reggio Emilia's belief in the child as a co-author of their own learning, all within the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) V2.0 and the National Quality Standard.

Privately owned, so decisions stay local

We are not part of a corporate group. There is no regional manager and no head office target. Every decision is made by the people who are in the building, which means we can reinvest in educators, environments and programs rather than reporting a margin upward.

Our heartfelt philosophy

At Little Jungle, we believe the earliest years of childhood are the most formative. Our environments are intentionally designed as calm, enriching spaces where children feel emotionally secure, genuinely curious, and free to explore. Every corner of our centre, indoors and outdoors, is purposefully crafted to inspire discovery, build confidence, and support each child's unique way of growing.

Frequently asked questions

What does Montessori and Reggio Emilia inspired mean in practice?

At Little Jungle, Montessori inspiration means children work with structured hands-on materials (pouring, sorting, practical life tasks) that build independence, concentration, and fine motor control. Reggio Emilia inspiration means educators observe children's genuine interests and build projects around what they are curious about. Together, these approaches create a program where children lead their own learning within a thoughtfully prepared environment.

How does your philosophy support children who learn differently?

Both Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches are inherently child-led. They meet each child where they are rather than expecting every child to progress at the same pace. This makes our program naturally suited to children with a wide range of learning styles, developmental timelines, and additional needs. We also work with the NSW Inclusion Agency for additional specialist support where needed.

What role do families play in the educational philosophy at Little Jungle?

Families are genuine partners in their child's education at Little Jungle. Educators share observations, learning stories, and development updates daily through the OWNA app. We welcome parent input into the curriculum and actively encourage families to share insights about their child's interests, milestones, and home life so we can build a truly connected program.
